It prevents electrical damage and allows for extended battery life without damaging the material.
The test found no degradation in 400 charge/discharge cycles, which is unheard of for lithium-ion batteries. “The ability to rotate over 400 cycles clearly shows the good performance of this material compared to those reported for conventional cells with solid materials,” said the author of the study and Associate Professor Neeraj Sharma in a statement.
While the object is not yet complete, the team believes that their research will significantly reduce the cost of batteries, and eventually lead to electric vehicles that charge quickly and maintain battery life forever.
